The Correlation Between Vocabbolary Mastery And The Writing Ability of The Fir ST-Grade Student s At SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru
This research was motivated by the existence of deficiencies found in
students' vocabulary mastery which affected their writing abilities. The purpose of
this study was to find out how the correlation of vocabulary mastery with the
writing ability of the first graders of SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru.
Quantitative research was used in this study. The research design of this
research is a correlational design because the researcher wants to measure the
relationship between the two variables. Data is collected by giving a test for each
variable. The total population of this study consisted of 287 students who were
divided into eight classes and the sample of this study was 35 students. In this
case, the researcher uses cluster sampling to take samples. Data were analyzed
using SPSS version 26.
The results showed a Pearson product-moment (rxy) correlation of 0.536.
When compared with a significance level of 5% with df = 33, it is obtained r table
0.333, so rxy > rt. while the rxy value is compared to a significant level of 1%
with df = 33, and an r table of 0.429 is obtained so that rxy > rt. Meanwhile, if
seen from the significant value (sig. 2-tailed), the results also show that there is a
significant relationship between variable X (vocabulary mastery) and variable Y
(writing ability), namely sig. 2-tailed shows the number 0.001 which means
