A Study On Students’ Error In Writing Simple Past Tense Of Recount Text At The Tenth Grade Students Of Sman 4 Mandau Academic Year 2023/2024
Writing is a linguistic competency beside listening, speaking, and reading. One of the most challenging linguistic skills is writing. Therefore the majority of pupils struggle with writing. The objective of this research is to determine the types of errors in writing language features, particularly the simple past tense of recount text, as well as the most frequent errors detected in writing language features, especially the past tense of recount text. The method of this research was qualitative Research. The subject of this research were 30 students of the tenth grade students of SMAN 4 Mandau. The techniques of collecting data was a writing test. The technique to analyze data was descriptive analysis technique. The researcher used types of error which are taken from Dulay, Burt and Krashen (1982), as cited from Ellish (2008) The result obtained from this study showed thatthe types of errors in student writing past tense of recount text were omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the data, it was also found some errors made by students. The first most type of errors that there were 21 errors or 23,08% of addition, 28 errors or 30,76% of omission, 34 errors or 37,36% of misformation and 8 errors or 8,8% of misordering. The most error composed by the students in writing past tense of recount text that the tenth grade student of SMAN 04 Mandau made was misformation type with the total errors is 34 errors or 37,76%.
