The Effect Of Using Card Sort Toward Students’ Vocabulary Mastery At The Eighth Grade Of Mts Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru

Vocabulary Mastery The objective of this research is to find out the significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery by using card sort. The card sort is a way of teaching like a sorting activity in which students group a set of cards with picture or words on them according to certain characteristics or category. Problems of the research are as in following: there have difficulty memorizing new words, their feel bored to follow the teaching learning process and they regard English as a difficult subject, and their lack of vocabulary, so by using card sort the researcher wants to find out whether is a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery after using card sort. This research design in this research is an experimental research. It consist of two classes, VIII.6 as the experimental class and VIII.4 as a control class by doing pre-test and post-test for each class. In this research, the instrument is a vocabulary test. The population of this research of MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru, there are six classes. The researcher takes only two classes as experimental class and control class. The researcher used statistical analysis to find out the effect of using card sort toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru. The research findings showed that there was a difference in the increase in vocabulary mastery between students in class VIII.6 after being taught by using card sort and students in VIII.4 taught without card sort. It could be seen from the average of pre-test of VIII.6 is 62.50 and post-test is 74.83. The value of Sig. (2 tailed) was 0.000 smaller than 0.05. Therefore, the null hyphothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, there is significant effect of the card sort toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade of MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru.
