Filtration loss & free water is a problem that is often experienced during drilling operations. To overcome this problem, additives are usually added where one of the additives that can be used to overcome this problem is activated carbon. Natural materials containing activated carbon include bamboo, coconut, palm shells, coffee and others. This study aims to determine the effect of activated carbon contained in Robusta coffee beans on filtration loss & free water of drilling cement. Carbon activation will be carried out by physical and chemical methods. Furthermore, the filtration loss & free water test using an LPLT tool was carried out in the laboratory to determine the effect of the coffee powder activated carbon on Filtration loss & Free water. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the additive of activated carbon in coffee grounds had an effect on filtration loss and free water. Variations in the concentration of activated carbon used were 0%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5% where the greater the concentration of the additive activated carbon added, the lower the value of filtration loss and free water obtained. The lowest filtration loss and free water values were obtained by adding 2.5% concentration with a loss filtration value of 180.741 cc and 1.2% free water.
