The development of built-up land in an area occurs due to the increasing population and the need for land. The phenomenon of development of built-up land tends to affect the quality of the surrounding settlement environment which is related to the provision of infrastructure to meet the needs of residents' activities. Identification of the effect of the development of built-up land on the quality of settlements is important for information, in order to create housing with good environmental quality in the future. Tanah Merah Village is one of the villages that is experiencing development of built-up land, especially housing considering the proximity of Tanah Merah Village to Pekanbaru City. So that the phenomenon of the development of built-up land in Tanah Merah Village can affect the environmental conditions of the settlements in the village. This study aims to identify the effect of the development of built-up land on the quality of the residential environment in Tanah Merah Village. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. Identification of the development of built-up land was carried out using the GIS method and overlaying the map of built-up land from 2018, 2020 and 2022. Identification of the quality of the settlement environment was carried out using the scoring method (weighting) on infrastructure conditions from 2018, 2020 and 2022. The effect of development was analyzed using simple linear regression test method using the SPSS 23 application. The results of the study show that the increase in the area of built-up land in Tanah Merah Village from 2018 to 2020 is 11% and 2020 to 2022 is 8%. Meanwhile, environmental quality has decreased from 2018 to 2020 by -9% and from 2020 to 2022 by -6%. Based on the test of the effect of the development of built-up land on the quality of the settlement environment, it was found to have a strong relationship and have a significant negative effect. So, every time there is an increase in the development of built-up land there will be a decrease in the quality of the settlement environment.
