This study discusses the application of penal mediation in resolving cases of traffic accidents that caused the victim to die in the jurisdiction of the Kuantan Singingi Police Station. The selection of this title is motivated by the mechanism for resolving cases of traffic accidents according to the traffic law and road transportation, if it meets the criminal elements, a legal process must be carried out in accordance with the criminal justice system which includes: investigation, prosecution, examination and settlement as well as submission of the case. In practice, it can be seen that a number of traffic accident cases were not resolved through the courts but were settled amicably by the parties.This study aims to find out how the application of internal penal mediation, resolving cases of traffic accidents that caused the victim to die in the jurisdiction of the Kuantan Singingi Police, what are the barriers to successful and unsuccessful application of penal mediation in resolving cases of traffic accidents that caused the victim to die in the jurisdiction of the Kuantan Singingi Police Station.The type of this research is sociological legal research, namely research by survey method, the type of data used in this research is sourced from primary data and secondary data, primary data is obtained from the results of field research while secondary data is obtained from the results of library research. The nature of this research is descriptive, namely research conducted by conducting interviews with several respondents, namely the Head of Traffic Police of Kuantan Singingi, Head of Laka Unit, victims, families of perpetrators, victims and community leaders. The data analysis used in this research is data analysis. qualitative.From the results that the authors get, the application of penal mediation is resolved in a familial way by involving the parties involved starting from the perpetrator, the victim, the perpetrator's parents, the victim, and community leaders. the parties to settle by means of mediation, However, the obstacles to the successful and unsuccessful implementation of this penal mediation are the difficulty of reaching an agreement between the perpetrator and the victim and the intervention of a third party during the peace process.
