The Effect of Crossword Puzzle Strategy on Students English Vocabulary Mastery at First Grade of SMA N3 Singingi Hilir Keywords: crossword puzzle, vocabulary crossword puzzle is an arrangement of numbered squares to be filled in with words, where each square has a letter English Education so that a letter appears in a word placed horizontally is usually also part of a word placed vertically, and numbered synonyms and definitions are given as clues for the words. The objective of this research is to find out the significant effect of crossword puzzle strategy on English vocabulary mastery, the crossword puzzle is a strategy or game to learn English, which can improve spelling skills, vocabulary skills, speaking skills, and understanding of the word. The research was experimental. The research sample was the experimental group. The population of this research was the first grade SMA N3 Singingi Hilir 2021/2022 academic years. The sample is purposive sampling. The form of the test was multiple choices. The instrument of this research was a vocabulary test. It is consist of 20 items for the pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test from SPSS version 26. The research finding showed there was a different result between the pre-test and post-test with the mean score 64.85 and 75.44. It means that the student's vocabulary after doing the treatment by using the crossword puzzle strategy has increased. The difference between the pre-test and post-test score is 10.588. the significant level was 0,000 which was less than 0,05. it indicates that a value of 0,000 < 0,005 as a result, there is a significant effect of crossword puzzle strategy on students' English vocabulary mastery at the first grade of SMA N 3 Singingi Hilir.
