An investigation is a series of actions carried out by seeking and collecting evidence which shows the elements of a criminal act, the aim is to find the suspect. The investigation emphasizes the process of searching and gathering evidence of criminal acts. So that it can be known who the suspect or perpetrator of a crime is. The main problem of this study is how the investigation process in the crime of theft with weights in the Bukit Raya Pekanbaru Police area is and what are the obstacles to the investigation process. The research method used in this research is sociological legal research by conducting direct interviews. The nature of this research is descriptive, that is, it describes in detail which intends to provide a complete description and description of the investigation process in the crime of theft in the area of the Bukit Raya Pekanbaru Police. The results of the research that the authors get, there are several factors that cause the perpetrators to commit the crime of theft, namely: internal factors (education, lack of or weak faith), external factors (economy, wrong environment, wrong association and illegal drugs). The countermeasures carried out by the Bukit Raya Pekanbaru Police are by means of preventive countermeasures, namely how to limit the space for criminals so that they do not take their actions in the sense that anticipation can start from socializing the law to the community and providing understanding to obey the law and carry out patrols in places that are safe. vulnerable.
