THE EFFECT OF ANIMATION VIDEO AS MEDIA TOWARDS STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY KNOWLEDGE AT EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 21 PEKANBARU
The background of this study is based on the problem of limited vocabulary, lack of motivation to learn, and little use of vocabulary in students' daily lives. This study aims to determine the effect of animated video as media on students' vocabulary knowledge at SMPN 21, Pekanbaru. By using attractive learning media, students are expected to become more motivated and can remember vocabulary more easly and use vocabulary. The method used an experimental design. Two classes were selected: an experimental class and control class. Each class consisted of 36 students. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test using a 40-question multiple-choice test with four indicators: noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. The technique of analyzed data used formula analyzed by normality test, homogeneity test, and paired sample T-test, using SPSS version 25. The results of study, score of the experiment pre-test from 63.26 to 79.44 in the post-test, with an increase in each indicator. Noun, from 6.64 to 8.33. Verb from 5.67 to 7.72. Adjective from 7.61 to 8.03. Adverb from 5.39 to 7.69. Moreover, the paired sample t-test statistical analysis data confirmed a significant difference in posttest results, t-calculated>t-table (10.700>2.030), it can be concluded that (H0) is rejected and (Ha) is accepted. It means that, the animated video has significant effect on vocabulary knowledge of eighth-grade students at SMPN 21 Pekanbaru.
