STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF THE USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON LEARNING ENGLISH OF THE EIGHT SEMESTER AT ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION OF FKIP UIR
The aim of this research is to find out the perceptions of English language
education students of Universitas Islam Riau towards the use of artificial
intelligence in English language learning, including students’ feelings, what
artificial intelligence are often used, the benefits and the challenges of using
artificial intelligence in English language learning that they face.
This research used a qualitative that students used artificial intelligence with
a case study design. This research used questionnaires and semi-structured
interviews as data collection methods. Basic statistical analysis was used to
analyzed the data from the questionnaire while the interview data analyzed using
Miles and Huberman’s Flow model.
The result showed that students used artificial intelligence to learn an improve
their English. The student chose ChatGPT as the most frequently used web.
Students stated that learning English on artificial Intelligence is fun, and they can
enjoy the learning process more on artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence
provides a variety of English material that allows them to continue practicing their
English skills, especially in term of pronunciations, increasing vocabulary, and
improving speaking skills. In addition, they can search for English materials that
they want to study in more depth. This situation creates a stress-free and pressurefree language environment for students so that students feel comfortable and
motivated to learn English anytime and anywhere for free. The students also
