EFEKTIVITAS BIOSURFAKTAN PKO DALAM CHEMICAL EOR: STUDI IFT, CMC, ADSORPSI, DAN TOKSISITAS

Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) merupakan bahan baku potensial untuk produksi biosurfaktan karena kandungan medium chain fatty acids yang tinggi terutama asam laurat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis biosurfaktan metil ester sulfonate (MES) dari PKO dan mengevaluasi performanya dalam menurunkan tegangan antarmuka serta meningkatkan perolehan minyak (oil recovery). Sintesis dilakukan melalui reaksi transesterifikasi menggunakan katalis H2SO4, diikuti sulfonasi. Karakterisasi dilakukan melalui pengukuran sifat fisik (pH, densitas, viskositas), komposisi asam lemak (GC-MS), serta analisis FTIR. Uji performa meliputi interfacial tension (IFT), critical micelle concentration (CMC), adsorpsi pada medium berpori, uji toksisitas dan oil recovery test pada kondisi simulasi reservoir (T = 50 0C dengan salinitas 10.000 ppm). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biosurfaktan dari pko mampu menurunkan IFT dari 15,2 mN/m (50 ppm) menjadi 1,2 mN/m (1000 ppm), dengan CMC tercapai pada konsentrasi 500 ppm. Adsorpsi biosurfaktan berada pada kisaran 28-32%, sementara uji toksisitas menunjukkan mortalitas meningkat hingga 85% pada 1000 ppm. Uji flooding menunjukkan oil recovery meningkat hingga 24,3% pada 1000 ppm. Dengan demikian, biosurfaktan dari PKO memiliki potensi sebagai agen EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery), meskipun perlu kajian lanjut terkait toksisitasnya.
