THE EFFECT OF SPIN WHEEL GAMES ON THE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS' AT SMKN 3 PEKANBARU
This study aims to find out whether the use of spin wheel games has a significant effect on the vocabulary mastery of tenth-grade students at SMKN 3 Pekanbaru. Most of students have challenging in mastering vocabulary. Spin Wheel Games were used as an interactive learning medium to create a more interesting and active learning atmosphere in the classroom. This research employed a quantitative experimental design involving two groups, namely an experimental class and a control class. The population consisted of tenth-grade students at SMKN 3 Pekanbaru, with 74 students selected as the sample through simple random sampling. The research instrument was a test administered in the form of a pre-test and post-test. The collected data were analyzed using a normality test to examine data distribution and a t-test to identify significant differences in students’ vocabulary achievement before and after the treatment. The results of the normality test showed that the data were normally distributed, as the significance values of the pre-test (Sig. = 0.912 > 0.05) and post-test (Sig. = 0.367 > 0.05). The t-test analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary scores in both classes. In the control class, the mean score increased from 63.38 to 69.05 (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), while the experimental class showed a higher increase, from 68.78 to 82.97 (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). These findings indicate that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, meaning that the use of spin wheel games has a positive and significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery.
