Oil palm plantations are the prima donna crop for the main livelihood of Riau Province. The issue of disruption to the water system caused by oil palm has spread as an environmental issue. Oil palm plantations are known as water greedy plants or plants that require quite a lot of water in their growth process. The purpose of this study was to compare the water balance of the plants before and after the presence of oil palm in Lubuk Dalam District. Referring to the water crisis cases that occurred in 2014 and 2015 in Siak District, Lubuk Dalam District is one of the sub-districts experiencing a clean water crisis and has a percentage of the area of oil palm plantations above 50% of the total area of the sub-district itself Plant water balance analysis in this study used the Thorthwaite & Mather (1957) method to produce crop water balance before and after the existence of oil palm plantations. Data needed include climatological data (rainfall, air temperature, etc.), soil type data (field capacity, permanent wilting point), and crop coefficient. The results of analysis of the water balance of plants before and after the existence of oil palm plantations such as forest Crop Evapotranspiration (ETc) is around 1,675 mm/year, while the ETc of oil palm is around 1,804 mm/year. The surplus before was around 820.77 mm/year and the surplus was around 362.48 mm/year. The deficit before was around 7.36 mm/year and the deficit after the oil palm plantation was 135.83 mm/year. From the results of the comparison it can be seen that oil palm can affect water availability.
