A Study on the Ability of Studen' Inflectional Morpheme at SMAS Serirama YLPI
The aimed of this research was to know the the ability of students’ in
identifying inflectional morpheme at SMAS SERIRAMA YLPI. This research
was qualitative research in order to describe the students’ ability through
identifying inflectional morpheme. There were some categories of inflectional
morpheme that discussed in this research. There were ; -s, -ed, -ng, -s, -‘s, -er, -est.
According to the result of the research, there are various mistakes
including in the –s third – person singular type, some students still add words with
the –ing ending which should appear in the progressive suffix type. Furthermore,
in the type of suffix -ed past tense, there are still students who make the ending -
ing. Whereas, in the past participle suffix, there was no students added a suffix to
the verb in the sentence provided. Furthermore, in the type of suffix – ing
progressive, there are still students who use the suffix – ed which should have a
type of suffix in the past tense. Besides that, in the suffix – plural type, the
researcher still found students who did not add a suffix to a noun indicating a
plural noun.
Finally, in the comparative and superlative –er suffixes, almost all
students did not understand when the –er and –est suffixes were used. This makes
the meaning of the sentence change. From the explanation of the research result,
it can be concluded that the students still lack understanding in making correct
sentences. This is due to a lack of knowledge of grammar which requires the word
to change form. So, the students should understand the rules of grammar in
complete the sentence.
