An Analysis Of Students's Writing Ability Of Recount Text At Class IX Of SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru.
The objective of this research is to find out the students’ writing ability and writing problems of the students. The researcher focus on writing recount text. The research was done under a descriptive and qualitative methodology. The subject of this research was done under the third year students' at SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru. The third year students’ on this research was fifty percents randomly selected of each class. The data collection technique used in this research was writing test. This research has four indicator such as content, organization, vocabulary and grammar. Based on the results of the data obtained after being assessed by raters, students' writing ability in writing recount text were excellent. There were 13 students (52%) who got the excellent category, where the average score was 83, for the good category, there were 8 students (32%) with an average score of 74, moreover 2 of the students from population got the fairly sufficient category with an average score of 54, and 2 of them got the poor category, which was 8% of the 100% population. The results of this average score can be concluded that students' writing skills are quite excellent. Furthermore, the results of the students' problems in writing test were found in grammar. The researcher found most of students wrote recount text with wrong tenses, irregular sentence structure that makes the sentences difficult to understand. But, the most commonly found in their writing tests are multiple tenses. Therefore, further research in writing ability and its solutions are needed to help students to learn English better.
